I Don't Know?

July 01, 2016 Syz 7 Comments

Assalamualaikum and hello you guys! For this post I thought of sharing some of my thoughts, since I haven't done it in a while. My last post on Thoughts were Friday Reminders, which I was supposed to publish every once a week on a Friday T-T Honestly, I should've never made that kind of statement while knowing how unpredictable my schedule is on a Friday. Anyways, back to this post. I recently heard a lecture by Mufti Menk, it was one of his Ramadan Episodes titled "Save Yourself". And aside from other issues that were highlighted, there was one that strike me the most. That was how we always tend answer questions that we don't know the answer to. I'm speaking for myself, it's true though, no matter what the question is, I'd always want to be the one with the answers. Although that kind of habit have decreased (Alhamdulillah) after I learned more about the Deen and learnt that in Islam, we're suppose to be blunt & honest when we don't know something. I wonder why is it so hard to say "I don't know", what is it in these 3 words that intimidate us? Is it the fact that we can't and won't admit that we don't have the knowledge to some things? Because that is probably just our Ego. My advice, drop it. Just drop it. It's better than giving others the wrong info or voicing out your "assumptions". Just simply say "I don't know" when you don't know. Believe me, once you start, it gets easier. You can always say "I'm not sure, but I'll check" too if you're up for some research. Even if you do know the answer, but have a slight doubt about it, it's always best to check whether it is correct or not before answering. Also this should work for both parties, on one hand we have a person saying I don't know and on another hand, the person should be just as understanding and move on. No need to interrogate that person even more when he/she have genuinely replied with no answers (keep in mind this example is on a lighter note, i.e. among family members, friends etc. Don't even ask me about detectives and police officers, because I don't know... heh). Also the other party should in no way belittle the person or make them feel as if they're idiots or something. No one should be treated as an idiot for being honest, ofc honesty should be paired up with wisdom. There's certain place and time to say certain things, you can't say something that might offend others and defend yourself with "Oh, I'm just being honest". That doesn't work.

So the next time you genuinely don't know the answer to something, say "I don't know". No matter the reaction of the people, because really, you're not doing it for them, you're solely doing it for the sake of Allah swt. And if you have asked a question and the person is not sure of the answer, accept it as it is and move on, or you both can check together, then you both would know the answer, and so it's a win-win situation.

These were some of my thoughts regarding this issue, you should totally check out the lecture for yourself, it's available on YouTube and each episode is like less than an hour. (FYI, this issue was mentioned in Episode 23). Definitely something worth hearing and super duper beneficial for the last days of Ramadan xx

5 Things I Do Without WIFI.

June 26, 2016 Syz 8 Comments

Assalamualaikum and hello you guys! I am back with another "5 Things I Do" post, my first one was "5 Things I Do During Rainy Days" and that had wonderful responses. For this post it'll be about the 5 Things I Do Without WIFI ~ As I have mentioned on my previous post, I was wifi-less for quite some time. I think around a week or so? Now you must be wondering, "whaaaaaaat?? A week of no WIFI?? How did yOU SURVIVEEEEE" (Okay, I totally exaggerated that). Honestly I was quite surprised myself to have gone through 7+ days of no internet, what was even more surprising was, I had fun. Rather than wasting my time watching food videos (which is not recommendable during Ramadan hehe...) I end up doing things and I actually moved from my spot. I also realized I'm a lot more calmer, especially when my mom calls me for some chores or errand, I'll happily do it, since I have nothing to distract me. Although it all disintegrate lessen when we had wifi again... But rest assure, I'm trying my best to keep it up!

Anyways, these are 5 things I would most likely do when I'm wifi-less:

1. Paint. I started painting recently, I find it really calm and relaxing. Plus it isn't as hard as sketching or drawing which I am not really bad at, but it just so happen to be not my thing. I would only draw/sketch when I'm in the mood for it and that mood doesn't usually last long and I'd end up with a half-drawn work. To be honest, I just don't have the patience for it ><'

2. Study. I do hope you don't find this weird or anything... But I thought it was a good idea rather than sitting idly like a zombie with nothing to do (scratch that, at least zombies walk to find it's prey) (double scratch that, zombies don't exist). The only studies I managed to do was to go through some of my Arabic vocabs, although this didn't last long but hey! At least that's something right?

3. Clean my room. Vacuumed, wiped the study table & dressing table, organized my drawers, did my laundry, reorganized my makeup... yup. The day I did all that was probably the most productive day ever.

4. Write in my diary. Yes I am indeed eighteen years old and yes I do have a diary. But see thing is, being an eighteen year old is exactly why I own a diary. We're going through a lot at this age and time.... or is it just me?

5. Go out. Okay I wouldn't say I'm not an out-going person because I do like going out, it's just that I get lazy and end up staying home using the internet. This time since staying home and using the internet wasn't an option, it resulted in me attending an Art class, going to people's houses for Iftar and so on.

Of course the list goes on, there's always something to do if you're up for it. I was going to include sleeping, but the list all had things that are productive one way or another, so I wanted to keep it that way haha. Another thing I have to mention is the answer to the question on my previous post, how did I managed to post that last post without any wifi??? Simple, I went to a nearby mall and used their wifi to publish it *insert duh-face moon emoji*.
That's all for now! Thanks for reading xx

GOSH Velvet Touch Matte Lipstick & Forever Lip Shine.

June 18, 2016 Syz 25 Comments

Assalamualaikum and hello you guys, today I'll be doing my first ever makeup review! *applause* Alright let's just get into it shall we? I got these two on a 2-for-1 sale offer at.... yupe, Boots. Apparently GOSH makeup were also included in the sale offer. I don't quite remember how much I got these two for, I think around AED 65? Anyway it was a good bargain.

What I bought were the Forever Lip Shine in Love Story 003 and the Velvet Touch Matte Lipstick in Antique 003. Like any other reviews, I'll be going through the pros & cons based on my opinion. Before I start I would like to state that you all are entitled to your opinion and that's fine, some things may work for me and not work on others, I may like a certain thing and some may not like it, so yeah we all have our own preferences and as long as we acknowledge that we'll get along fine ^-^

GOSH Velvet Touch Matte Lipstick in ANTIQUE 003: I really like this lipstick for it's colour (you can see the swatch down below). It's more like hot chocolate kind of brown, and I may be over-reacting but it honestly smells like chocolate. I was on the hunt for some matte nude brown lipstick,  and it's hard when you're looking for something dark but at the same time not too dark y'know? It was not really surprising that I end up at the makeup section at Boots with a lady showing me bunch of nude coloured lipsticks. When I first saw this colour I was unsure of how it'll turn out on my lips, but being the risk taker that I am (aha, not really), I bought it. Alhamdulillah it is just perfect! And it suits my skin-tone just right. The texture is creamy when applying and ofc it turns matte, although it does make your lips feel really dry (then again that's how most matte lipsticks are), it's one of those "I feel it, but I don't see it". *UPDATE: Okay, turns out this lipstick wasn't the cause for making my lips feel like it's dried, it was actually the lip liner that I have paired up with it! Now that I think about it, I have never actually tried this lipstick all by itself, until today... Btw, it is currently 1am... Anyways, the lipstick keeps it's creamy texture when I applied it by itself, it doesn't feel moisturizing in my opinion, but it definitely doesn't make my lips feel dry either, I would say in the middle?*

Pros:
- Brilliant colour.
- Creamy texture making it easy (and soothing?) to apply.
- Smells like chocolate.
- Perfect for fair or slightly tanned skin-tone.
- Turns matte.

Cons:
- Not really long lasting (will easily disappear when you eat/drink).
- Makes your lips feel dry (like the sahara desert...)

GOSH Forever Lip Shine in LOVE STORY 003: Honestly I have mixed feelings about this one, since I reallyyyy love the colour which is more towards the purplish-pinkish nude (I'm just into nude coloured lipsticks nowadays hehe). I'm not sure if it's suppose to turn matte, basically what happens when you first apply it is that it turns shiny (hence the name "forever lip shine"). It isn't as glossy as a lip gloss, I think the word for it is metallic? Not really though... Although I feel like it turns matte after a while, it's like matte with a little shine (?) I already have a lip liner that is almost the same colour, so it looks really nice when paired up with each other. My problem with this is that it doesn't last very long and it easily fades, so I would constantly have to reapply it...

Pros:
- Lovely colour.
- Creamy & silky texture.
- Turns slightly matte.
- Moisturizing (does not dry your lips).

Cons:
- Not long lasting (easily disappears even without the drinking/eating).
- Not as pigmented (you have to build up the colour, which is a con for me since I have to apply a lot of it for the colour to show because of my natural lip colour).

Andddddd the swatches.....

That's all for this post! Thank you for reading ^-^
I won't be able to post as frequently nowadays.. Long story short, no wifi. Will post as much as possible as soon as the wifi's back, maybe I'll do a post on how I survived without wifi next and how I managed to publish this post hehe.

Miracle Garden, DUBAI.

June 05, 2016 Syz 3 Comments

Assalamualaikum and hello you guys! For today's posts, get ready for some picture spam. For those who have read my About page, you would probably already know that I live in Dubai, UAE. And just to answer some of the questions that you might have in mind;

- No, we do not ride camels.
- Yes, we live in proper houses and not in the middle of the desert.
- Yes, it's super hot here (especially during the summer) but it's okay because we have the A/C (ALHAMDULILLAH).
- No, I will not pick between Dubai and Malaysia because to me, they're both home.
- Nope, I am not fluent in Arabic (unfortunately T-T).

Now, if I haven't given an answer for your questions, just comment as many as you want down below and I'd be more than happy to answer them :)

Right, back to what this post is really all about. Here in Dubai we have this place called Miracle Garden, which apparently features over 109 million flowers planted. It was launched in 2013 and the garden spread over 72,000 square meters (got all these info from wikipedia hehe..). My family and I went here last year and the place was packed with people, seriously, it was packed. It took us a while to find a place to park and we weren't even there for more than 2 hours because there were so many people. Here are some of the pictures that I managed to take though ~

It was an interesting place to visit, I've never seen so many flowers in one place before. If you're ever in Dubai, this is definitely one of the place you need to check out. Just keep in mind that this place is usually crowded during the weekend (Friday-Saturday, and also on Thursday evening). If I were you I'd go on a weekday. I expect it to be less crowded then, only then can you enjoy the beauty of Miracle Garden without having to worry about being in people's way and bumping into them...

Top 3 Styles That I Am Head Over Heels For.

May 30, 2016 Syz 2 Comments

Assalamualikum guys! I was recently on Pinterest, call it a hunting for some ideas on what I should post next (yes, not only did I logged into Tumblr for this blog, I also logged into Pinterest after what seems like a decade since I last opened it). For this post I'll be sharing the Top 3 styles that I am currently in-love with. Based on what I've seen online, I was inspired to recreate the styles in a way that I would wear it.

The Minimalist.

This style is perfect for those who like simple yet fashionable. Since the colour scheme is basically black and white, it's not hard to get this look. You just need a pair of pants, match it with a shirt/shirt dress and a long cardigan/jacket. Honestly, you can never go wrong with black, white and gray! Pair this look with classic nude eyes and lips, and voila! A pair of ankle-length boots is ideal for this look, a bag and sunglasses to match are a must! This is the style that I recently found out about and am dying to try out, honestly I've been trying to find a shirt dress long enough that it goes below my knees, but I couldn't get my hands on any (well any cheap ones that is...) Although I am not giving up that easily and I will definitely constantly be on the look out for it!

The Boho Gal.
This style is one that I adore afgdgdfshjdfgjhsfk very much. I don't know, I just find it adorable yet elegant (?). The earthy colour scheme makes it perfect for spring & summer. Don't you think it'll be perfect for a picnic?  For this look I paired up a sand coloured crop top with a plain black maxi skirt, then of course a lovely fringe cream kimono to go with it. Complete the outfit with a pair of matching sandals, round (and superrr pretty) sunglasses and a fringe suede backpack.

Chic in the City.
This style is also one of my favourites (well duh, that's what this post is all about..). When I made this, there was only one word that came in mind to describe it; Cute. I added flared pants to this look because I honestly want to own one, they sell flared pants here but I can't seem to find the denim ones. The colour scheme is quite similar to the minimalist one, this one has a touch of denim blue though. What makes this different from the minimalist style is probably the baggy oversized denim jacket and the cute bunny ears sling bag. If you were to pair the shoes, glasses and the phone cover with the minimalist style, I'm 99.9% sure it'll match hehe.

That's all for this post! Hope you guys got a glimpse of my fashion sense, would love to know which one of these 3 is your favourite :)

Friday Reminder.

May 20, 2016 Syz 2 Comments

Assalamualikum, so it's Fridayyy today (obviously) and I especially logged into Tumblr for today's post. I decided to collect a few reminders that I hope would be of benefit to you as it was for me, which could help on those days where you're either feeling like life's not going the way you want it to or that you're beating yourself up over something or you're just sick and tired of everything.... Basically you're surrounded by all sorts of negativity.

Honestly for me, the best way to eliminate negativism is to counter-attack it with some
~ positive thinking ~

These are just the 10 reminders that I collected, there were definitely a lot more but I just limit myself to posting ten per week on a Friday. Most (actually almost all) of them are from islamicrays, which I highly recommend you to follow if you have Tumblr. That's it for this post, hope it gives you some sense of positivity to go on for the day :)
